Millford Friesian Stud is situated in the rolling hills of the Dargle Valley in the Kwa Zulu Natal Midlands. The owners Tim and Kate Baynes have dedicated the last 7 years to ensuring that Millford Stud Breeds Friesian that meet the strict standards set out by the KFPS.
Our philosphy at Millford is to provide all Friesian owners with a horse that will suite their needs, wether it be to breed, compete or just to enjoy.
For all of the team at Millford, the care and well being of our horses is the most important aspect of the Stud. A large emphasis is put on natural horsemanship in both the training of our youngsters and the running of our yard, where careful consideration, time and effort is given to the handling of each and every horse. The stud promotes horses living out and growing up in big herd. Ultimately our aim is to supply potential buyers with a fine all round horse of good temperament, well bred, well mannered, with beautiful Friesian characteristics and also the ability to compete and succeed in the competition area.
We are very proud of how far Millford has come over the last 7 years. From humble beginnings to one of South Africa’s leading Friesian Studs. We have bred with great care, introducing imported horses from Holland, thus increasing our breed stock to over 50 horses. We first imported mares in 2006 and then again in 2008 when we also brought in our Foal Book Stallion Reinoud fan ‘e Homar Vb Ster. Our years of careful breeding has ensured that we have remained competitive with in the market and also providing well bred modern Friesians.
Tim and I are very greatful to our Team who help with all the aspect of the stud. There dedication and pride in our horses is key to our success. It is also the support, love and understanding of our family that ensure we remain focused, especially Matthew and Nina the future of Millford and our inspiration.

Our Goals
- 1st Is to breed a horse of great sport ability while at all times adhering to the breeding principals set out by the KFPS (the mother Stud book in Holland) We judge all our horses on a yearly basis to ensure we are breeding to the KFPS’s international standards. We pride ourselves in the care and attention we give to each breeding season both in choosing the correct stallions for our mares and the way our mare and foals are looked after during each foaling season.
